Facebook is growing constantly. On August 1, the biggest social network took over the start-up Ozlo, that is specialized on voice recognition and communication between humans and computers. This step will allow facebook to use artificial intelligence (AI) for their programs like their messenger application.
But there has been news, that on Thursday, the founder and CEO of the network Mark Zuckerberg has hired the famous pollster Joel Benenson. Benenson, who had already worked for Barack Obama has also been chief strategist for Hillary Clinton’s election campaign. After also having hired Obama’s 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe, and Ken Mehlman, who was responsible for George Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004, there are rumors that Mark Zuckerberg maybe wants to run for Presidency. It definitely seems that he has political ambitions, he even started touring through different states, like Iowa. As he stated on his facebook account two months ago, his aim for 2017 is “to visit every state [he hasn’t] spent time in before to learn about people’s hopes and challenges, and how they’re thinking about their work and communities”. His trips have been documented in an impeccable way, as it is often seen during election campaigns, even Wall Street Journal reported about his trip.
But what does he do this for? Zuckerberg himself has denied any political interest, when he announced on his facebook page: “Some of you have asked if this challenge means I’m running for public office. I’m not.” Of course, this denial does not mean anything. Many candidates have denied their interest in running for president, and later changed their opinion due to their popularity. According to Public Policy Polling, Zuckerberg tied with President Donald Trump in a recent survey at 40 percent each. So at least, he has already fulfilled the popularity aspect.
